Why do this in the browser?

Most online PDF tools work by uploading your document to a server, processing it there and sending it back. That means a copy of your contract, pay slip or medical record sits on someone else’s computer, protected by nothing but a privacy policy and a deletion timer.

Plain PDF takes the other route. Every tool here is plain JavaScript running in the page you are looking at, so your file is opened by your own browser and the finished document is written straight back to your downloads folder. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is also why there is no size limit and no queue: the only resources being used are your own.

Because the processing is local, these tools keep working when your connection drops. Load any page once, and it will still merge and split files on a plane or a train.

Questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Plain PDF processes every file inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which is also why the tools keep working after your connection drops.

Is it really free, with no limits?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on file count or file size, no hourly task limit and no watermark. The site is paid for by ads. The practical limit is your device’s memory.

Is it safe for confidential documents?

Because files never leave your device, contracts, medical records and financial documents are never transmitted to anyone. That makes Plain PDF a good fit for GDPR-sensitive work, where sending a document to a third-party processor would need a legal basis.

Do the tools work offline?

Yes. Once a tool page has loaded, the processing happens entirely in your browser, so it keeps working with no connection at all.

Which browsers are supported?

Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on desktop or mobile. There is nothing to install.

Does Plain PDF use cookies or tracking?

The tools themselves need no cookies and no accounts. The ads that pay for the site do use cookies, and in the EU and UK you are asked for consent before any ad cookie is set. Your documents are never part of that — they are not uploaded in the first place.
